Isaac Hayden scored the only goal of the match to give Newcastle all three points against Lampard’s men at St. James’ Park.

Speaking after the match, Lampard told Sky Sports: “We need to be clinical if we want to get where we want to.

“I always defend the players but the nature is we can’t work anymore on training on finishing, sometimes we need that killer instinct in front of goal.

“As a team, we chip in with goals from different areas but from the front line we need more goals.

“You have to get your head around it very quickly. I am not massive on stats but my feel of the game was one of domination.

“They didn’t really cause danger in our box, and you won’t always create clear cut against Newcastle because they have so many defenders around their six-yard box.

“Fair play to them because they defend with everything but we absolutely controlled it and that’s football.

“At 0-0 I was going to say to lads you gave everything but if you don’t score you’re always liable for a sucker punch.

“It is something we need to address on the pitch.”

Chelsea will now host Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in their next Premier League fixture on Tuesday.
