The story of the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, is yet to come to an end.
As Nigerians wait in anxiety to see to the end of this story, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) continues to open fresh chapters.
Emefiele’s troubles started days after President Tinubu assumed office.
The president had suspended Emefiele and boom, the DSS paid him a visit, one that landed him in their custody.
After chilling with the DSS for a while, Emefiele regained his freedom, unknown to him, the EFCC had eyes on him too.
The Trial Continues
That was how Emefiele ended up with the EFCC.
In fact, till today, he frequents the court like a pregnant woman frequents the hospital.
Emefiele is currently facing numerous charges.
He has appeared at the Ikeja High Court in Lagos to continue his trial.
Emefiele was arraigned before the court to face charges related to the alleged misuse of his position and the allocation of billions of dollars.
The embattled ex-CBN Governor was accompanied by his co-defendant, Henry Isioma Omole.
On Monday, April 8, Justice Rahman Oshodi will present both individuals with 26 fresh charges.
Fresh Charges
The charge sheet was dated April 3, 2024, and with the reference ID/23787c/2024.
In it, the EFCC accused Emefiele of abusing his authority in Lagos between 2022 and 2023.

Furthermore, the commission alleged that Emefiele “directed to be done in abuse of the authority of your office, as the Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, an arbitrary act, to wit: allocating foreign exchange in the aggregate sum of $2,136,391,737.33 without bids, which act is prejudicial to the rights of Nigerians”.
