There is no limit to what the internet could make people do. ‘All for the grams’, people could throw caution in the wind just to get seen. Unfortunately, not many are aware there is a cybercrime Act in Nigeria.

Imagine a doctor exposing your medical information online without your permission.

Basically, doctors are not allowed to disclose the medical history of their patients to a third party.

But Dr. Kelvin Kadev, in a Facebook post on March 12, 2023, stated that he stitched the lacerated anus of the Benue State Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bemgba Iortyom, after he was sodomised in Abuja prison in 2017, as disclosed by David Mzer.

That post is now a nightmare for the doctor.

The first information report from the police reads: “On the 13/03/2023, a criminal petition was received by the Commissioner of Police written by D.K. Iorhemba and Co. as Barrister and Solicitors on behalf of Bemgba Iortyom, the PDP Publicity Secretary, Benue State”.

According to the statement, the petition stated that “one Kadev Kenneth Kelvin, a medical doctor who works at Kadev Health Systems Services of No.9 opposite Holy Covent, Otukpo Road, Makurdi, made damaging comments on him on the 12/03/2023 at about 1300hrs, on Facebook”.

The petition read: “When Kadev Kenneth Kelvin was chatting with one Gabriel Terungwa Shange, he chatted that, my brother, if Bemgba Iortyom wants to go dirty, just inform me, the day he found out that I was the medical doctor that stitched his lacerated anus when he was sodomised in Abuja prison in 2017, he blocked me”.

Inspector S. O. Itodo, the police prosecutor, told the court that the issue was still under investigation.

He asked the court for another date to enable the prosecution to prove its case.

Bemgba Iortyom and G. I. Tseen Esq, who carried the brief of P. T. Anderson, for Dr. Kadev, the Chief Magistrate, N.E. Kakaan remanded the accused person at the Federal Detention Centre in Makurdi after hearing from Greg Mbasuen, the attorney for the complainant in the case.

He, thereafter, adjourned the matter to May 24, 2023, for further mention.

It is obvious that Nigeria is taking cyberstalking crime serious.

Before you drop that comment, be sure it’s not going to land you in trouble.
