Man threatens to commit suicide over non-payment of late father’s N13m gratuity


A 34-year-old man, identified as Iliya Adamu, has reportedly taken his own life in Adamawa State after his brother accused him of stealing N40,000.

Reports made available reveals that the situation which led to the death of Adamu began about seven months ago when the brother, whose name has not been ascertained, fingered Adamu of stealing his money.

Adamu who is a bricklayer in Girei, was accused of stealing the money in April.

According to reports Adamu had killed himself after putting up with his brother’s accusation for several months.

Residents found his body dangling from a tree branch in the bush in Girei.

According to an eyewitness, an empty container of insecticide was found on the ground at the scene, suggesting that he took the deadly poison before coiling the suicidal rope around his neck and releasing himself finally to death.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Adamawa State, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the incident, saying that officials from relevant departments of the Police Command were investigating the matter.
