Microblogging platform, Twitter, has deactivated the verification badges of some top Nigerian politicians and other users enjoying the free blue tick.
The deactivation took place on Thursday.
The mass removal of the blue tick has affected top politicians in Nigeria.
It has also affected journalists, celebrities, Non-Governmental Organisations, and others.
No Payment, No Verification
The Chief Executive Officer of Twitter, Elon Musk, said that people enjoying free verified Twitter accounts will lose their verification badges on April 20, 2023.
The only solution is for these users to pay for Twitter verification.
Blue Tick Politicians
A recent check on the handles of some political figures in Nigeria shows that the verification badges disappeared on Thursday night.
Many other politicians subscribed to Twitter Blue which cost $8 monthly and $84 yearly.
