A meeting of the National Security Council held at the State House in Abuja on Monday afternoon, with President Bola Tinubu presiding. It was learned that the meeting — the specifics of which were not made public — was called to evaluate the present security situation in Nigeria.
It began with the military chiefs briefing President Tinubu on their efforts to address the security situation in Nigeria before he leaves for New Delhi.
In India, President Tinubu will attend the G-20 summit, which is slated to take place from September 9 to 10.
The International Committee of the Red Cross recently declared banditry to be the greatest security concern to the nation.
It says it is destroying Nigeria’s North-west and North Central regions.
It is exactly three months after Tinubu called his initial security meeting with the now-retired service chiefs.
Monday’s meeting was held in the president’s conference room.
‘Question Of Definition’
According to an article entitled: “The question of definition: Armed banditry in Nigeria’s North-West in the context of international humanitarian law,” terrorism and banditry have put the North East and North-West on edge.

It stated that about 350,000 people have been killed by terrorists and millions have been displaced.
Also, the number of fatalities from banditry-related activities has occasionally exceeded that of Boko Haram terrorists.
General Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant-General Taoreed Lagbaja, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, and Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of Army, were in the security meeting.
Also present were, the Minister of Defense, Abubakar Badaru and his Minister of State, Bello Mattawale were also present.
None of the attendees agreed to address the press as of this report.
