On May 17, 2023, Justice Chiwendu Nwogu issued an arrest warrant for Amaechi, Patrick Tonye-Cole, the All Progressives Congress’ Rivers State Governorship candidate.
That warrant of arrest issued by a Rivers State High Court has been overturned by a Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt.
Rivers State Government filed a criminal complaint against Rotimi Amaechi, the state’s former governor and five others.
After that request was made, Justice Chiwendu Nwogu on May 17, 2023, issued an arrest warrant for Amaechi, Patrick Tonye-Cole, the All Progressives Congress’ Rivers State Governorship candidate.
A former Commissioner for Energy, Augustine Wokocha and three others in the recently ended 2023 election, which was contested at the Appeal Court.
However a three-man panel was presided over by Justice Joseph Ikyegh.

The panel ruled that the Rivers State High Court erred in proceeding with the case while the process had previously been challenged at the Appellate Court.
The Appeal Court’s three-man panel also overturned the arrest warrant issued against Amaechi and five others.
They criticised the process of serving the defendants.
Also one of the counsels for Amaechi and the other defendants, Achinike Williams, stated that the Appeal Court’s decision made an effect.
He said” “It has put a stop to the illegality of the Rivers State Government under former Governor Nyesom Wike”.
