Nigerian track and field greats Chioma Ajunwa, Fatimat Yusuf and Patience Itanyi as well as table tennis legend, Funke Oshonaike are among top sports dignitaries that will march in solidarity with women in sports on March 4, 2020 in Abuja.
The march, which is backed by the United Nations is one of the events marked to celebrate the international women day. Several women groups in Nigeria are expected to join in the march to create awareness about the inequalities faced by women and girls in sports.
Speaking on the coming event, former heptathlete, Itanyi stated that the march was key and well overdue as many Nigerian women in sports have for too suffered some form of undesirable consequences as they pursued their career.

“There is an urgent need for us to create awareness of what our women suffer in sports. This is with the hope that more conducive atmosphere and environment will be created for Nigerian sports women,” Itanyi said.
The march will commence at the Unity fountain to the National Assembly, Federal Ministry of Justice and the Human Rights Commission. The march will be followed up with a seminar on March 5 at the Media Centre of the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
