Leila Fowler, Popularly Known As Yeye Mofin Of Lagos, Passes Away

Chief Mrs Leila Euphemia Apinke Fowler (née Moore), the revered Yeye Mofin of Lagos and visionary founder of the prestigious Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls, has passed away at the age of 91.

Her death was confirmed by Bashorun J.K. Randle.

Born on 23 March 1933 in Lagos, Chief Fowler lived a remarkable life marked by resilience, service.

Also, a groundbreaking accomplishments across law, nursing, politics, and education.

She began her education at CMS Girls’ School, Lagos, before moving on to Queen of the Rosary College, Onitsha,.

Initially pursuing a career in teaching, she later trained as a nurse at the renowned St Thomas’ Hospital, London.

Also, her passion for justice led her to study law at Middle Temple, where she was called to the Bar in 1962.

She returned to Nigeria in 1963, was admitted to the Nigerian Bar.

Furthermore, she went on to build a successful practice, specialising in insurance law and consultancy.

Her commitment to service extended beyond the courtroom.

Between 1978 and 1980, she served as a councillor in the Lagos City Council.

Also, she was  actively involved with the Nigerian Bar Association, the Nigerian Red Cross, and the Corona Schools Trust Council.

In 1991, Fowler established the Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls in memory of her late daughter.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions, she was conferred with the esteemed title of Yeye Mofin of Lagos by Oba Adeyinka Oyekan II.

Chief Fowler leaves behind a powerful legacy of impact.
