Former Big Brother Naija housemate and Season 7 winner, Phyna, has voiced concerns over the declining influence and relevance of the popular reality TV show.
She stated that its fanbase is no longer growing and can no longer sustain the careers of many contestants.
Speaking during a recent livestream, Phyna argued that most ex-housemates now rely on the same pool of fans.
Also, audience support merely rotating from one contestant to another rather than attracting new followers.
According to her, this stagnation has made it increasingly difficult for housemates to thrive after the show.
The fanbase is no longer strong or diverse enough to support multiple careers simultaneously.
“The steeze housemates have on the show, they don’t have it again, because it’s the same fanbase that moves from one person to another. No new people, nothing new. It’s just the same people,” she said.
Phyna also claimed that Big Brother Naija has lost much of the credibility and prestige it once commanded.
She noted that being an ex-housemate no longer carries the same weight it did in previous seasons.
“And aside from that, the show has lost credibility compared to how it was before. When you tell someone now that you came out of BBNaija, they won’t rate you the way they used to then,” she added.
Phyna, whose real name is Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, emerged winner of the seventh season of Big Brother Naija, tagged Level Up, on October 2, 2022.
Also, she took home the ₦100 million grand prize after defeating fellow finalist Bryann with 40.74 per cent of the votes.
