Recently, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) approved the resumption of scheduled commercial flights, after carefully reviewing the airport’s facilities and operations.
Government-Led Transformation
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Government led a remarkable transformation of the airport, aiming to meet international standards.
They extended and widened the runway, upgraded airfield lighting, and ensured all safety measures meet global requirements.

In addition, the government built a 500,000-litre aviation fuel storage facility and opened a modern Protocol Lounge, offering greater comfort for visitors and officials.
Together, these projects reflect the state’s broader vision to position Ibadan as a regional aviation hub.
Looking Ahead For Passengers And Trade
Furthermore, Special Adviser on Media to the Oyo State Governor, Dr Suleiman Olanrewaju, confirmed on December 17, 2025 that the NCAA issued a provisional interim operational permit.
Moreover, the authority gave approval after thoroughly assessing safety-critical systems, operational arrangements, and mitigation measures provided by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Ultimately, with commercial flights returning, Ibadan Airport will strengthen connectivity, boost tourism, and stimulate trade and investment across Oyo State.
