Hidden in Umunkpei Nvosi in Abia State municipality of Isiala-Ngwa, the home housed young girls who come in, get pregnant and sell their babies.
It is not the first time that security agencies will be discovering homes referred to as baby factory.
The discovery was in response to an intelligence tip. The 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Ohafia, discovered the baby factory on Sunday.
According to findings, the facility was purportedly run by a local.
When the troops arrived the facility, they had already freed 22 women, including 2 kids (a boy and a girl) and 21 pregnant women.
A Tiger generator, a stretcher, a gas cylinder, a bag of rice, four cans of tomatoes, five liters of vegetable oil, two bags of garri, and soup ingredients are among the additional items discovered there.
Baby Factory Uncovered
According to the military, it had been told that the proprietor of the baby factory was selling some of these infants to criminal operatives for ceremonial and ritual purposes.
It was further alleged that the woman was also constituting a nuisance in the area, as sometimes human parts were seen around the building.
According to a member of the troop, the owner of the baby factory is currently at large but efforts are ongoing to apprehend her.
However, one Katherine Oyechi Ngwanma, a 34-year-old chef at the facility, was arrested by the troops.
The pregnant women, as well as the babies, have been handed over to the Abia State Government for further action.
However, the new Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Chinaka Chioma Maureen could not be reached for her comment.
Alex Otti’s Promise
In an interview after the operation, the Media Adviser to Governor Alex Otti, Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma, commended the military for the operation.
He stated that there was no justification for the crime.
“This kind of thing should not be happening in any part of Abia State.”

Furthermore, Mr Ferdinand assured residents that Alex Otti’s administration would definitely sanitise Abia State.
He also mentioned that, the government would in collaboration with the security agencies, conduct a thorough investigation on the matter.
Otti’s government again reassured the residents that it would not allow such ugly incidents to thrive in any part of the state henceforth.
