Pension Relief In Ondo

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa confirmed that the state released ₦2.4 billion for retirees.

The payment covers pensioners who left public service between 2018 and 2019, ensuring fair recognition.

During an official flag-off ceremony in Akure, the governor addressed citizens and explained the government’s commitment.

For many pensioners, the moment sparked hope after years of financial uncertainty and delayed entitlements.

Furthermore, the governor stated that the payment aims to ease hardship and restore dignity to retirees.

Clearing Pension Backlogs

Earlier, the government paid ₦2.2 billion in October 2025 to retirees from 2016 and 2017.

In addition, these payments demonstrate a structured approach as the government clears inherited pension arrears step by step.

Governor Aiyedatiwa acknowledged that his administration inherited a large backlog of unpaid pension liabilities.

However, he assured citizens that his government continues to clear all outstanding arrears with determination.

Moreover, he emphasised that retirement should provide dignity, rest, and financial security after years of service.

He stressed that retirees deserve timely payments because they dedicated their lives to public service.

Restoring Trust And Hope

Importantly, officials confirmed that beneficiaries will receive full gratuity payments without deductions.

Peter Akingbade explained that this development restores confidence and strengthens trust in the pension system.

Additionally, he noted that the payment brings relief and hope to many families depending on these funds.

Mary Mabogunje expressed gratitude and described the payment as timely support for retirees and their households.

Meanwhile, across Nigeria, pension delays continue to affect thousands of retirees at different levels of government.

However, authorities now implement reforms to reduce delays and improve pension payment systems nationwide.

The National Pension Commission actively supports efforts to settle outstanding pension obligations across the country.

Consequently, it disburses funds to clear accumulated pension liabilities and support retirees’ financial stability.

Ultimately, these reforms aim to ensure retirees receive their entitlements promptly and without unnecessary delays.

Therefore, many pensioners now see the latest payment as a sign of progress and renewed hope.
