Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has delivered his first televised address to the nation, calling for unity as the country navigates the aftermath of recent conflict and loss.
In his message broadcast on state television, Khamenei expressed deep sympathy for families who lost loved ones during the unrest and pledged that the government would stand by those affected by the destruction and hardship caused by the violence.
Reflecting on his own personal tragedy, the newly appointed leader revealed that the attacks claimed the lives of several members of his family, including his father, the former Supreme Leader, as well as his wife. He also disclosed that his sister suffered the loss of both her husband and child during the crisis.
Khamenei said faith and patience had been central in helping him cope with the painful losses, adding that his grief mirrors the suffering felt by many citizens across the country.
National Solidarity
According to him, the period of hardship should strengthen national solidarity rather than divide the population.
He urged Iranians to remain steadfast and united while the nation rebuilds.
“I lost my father and my wife, and my sister lost both her husband and her child,” he said. “Our unity must be protected, and that can only happen when we stand together and seek common ground. Faith and patience are what carry us through moments like this.”
He emphasised that the tragedy was not limited to his own family, noting that many Iranians have also lost loved ones in the recent conflict.
“It is not just about my family,” Khamenei added. “It is about every citizen who lost their life during this war. I share in the grief of all those who are mourning.”
While stressing the importance of resilience and faith, the new leader also vowed that the sacrifices of those killed would not be forgotten.

He insisted that Iran would eventually seek justice for what he described as its “martyrs.”
Khamenei further praised citizens from different backgrounds who, according to him, stood firm against external threats during the period of conflict.
