The Plateau State Government has enforced a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area after a deadly attack on the Gari Ya Waye community in Angwan Rukuba late Sunday.
Residents were gripped by fear when suspected gunmen stormed the area around 7:50 p.m., firing indiscriminately and causing chaos.
The sudden burst of gunfire forced people to flee for safety as the attackers carried out the assault.
While authorities have yet to release an official casualty figure, local sources report that several lives were lost and many others were left injured, some with serious gunshot wounds.
In response, the state government announced immediate restrictions on movement.
The directive was communicated in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, confirming that the curfew began at midnight on March 29 and will remain in place until April 1, 2026.
The Night Attack
Describing the incident as a grave security failure, the government expressed deep concern over the loss of lives and injuries sustained during the attack.
The administration of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang condemned the violence in strong terms, labeling it a senseless and unprovoked act against innocent civilians.
Officials also reassured the public that security agencies have been deployed to restore order and are actively pursuing those responsible.

Residents have been urged to remain calm, stay indoors during the curfew, and assist authorities with any information that could aid ongoing investigations.
The government emphasised that restoring peace and ensuring justice remain top priorities as efforts continue to stabilise the affected community.
