Adedamola Joshua, uncle to Nigerian-British boxing champion Anthony Joshua, has opened up on the shock, pain and trauma his family is facing following a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of two of the boxer’s close friends.
Speaking in an interview, Adedamola revealed that the family did not immediately get the news through social media.

They explains that they were informed later via a phone call.
According to him, the incident raised serious concerns about emergency response, public behaviour at accident scenes and overall road safety in Nigeria.
“Well, some of us are not really used to social media, so we didn’t get to hear of it on time. Around 1pm, one of my church members, a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, called to inform me of the accident. It sounded unbelievable at first.
“How can Anthony Joshua be involved in an accident? It sounded impossible, but unfortunately, it happened,” he said.
Adedamola disclosed that the family was further disturbed by reports that some bystanders allegedly stole the boxer’s phone at the accident scene instead of offering help.
He explained that the tragic incident left the family devastated.
This is especially as Anthony Joshua had only arrived in Nigeria hours earlier and was on his way to Sagamu to spend time with relatives.
“It has really left us in shock because this is not the first, second or third time he has been coming home. So why now? What happened?
“He arrived in the country barely six hours earlier and was eager to see his family in Sagamu, only for things to turn out this way,” he said.

Adedamola added that the heavyweight champion deliberately chose to spend time with his family rather than meet with political leaders or influential figures.
