Record producer Samklef has accused Afrobeats star Davido of playing a major role in promoting toxicity and unhealthy rivalry within the Nigerian music industry.

Samklef made the claim while reacting to a post by producer-turned-singer Pheelz, who lamented the growing culture of comparisons and hostility among artistes.
Pheelz had written that music was meant to be enjoyed rather than compared, warning that constant rivalry was damaging the sound and culture of the industry.
Reacting to the statement, Samklef argued that there was mutual respect and harmony in the industry during the early rise of Wizkid and Olamide.
According to him, the atmosphere changed when Davido joined the scene.
He alleged that Davido’s emergence ushered in what he described as toxicity, a “cultist mindset,” threats, and streaming fraud, stressing that the music industry was never meant to thrive on competition or rivalry.
In a series of posts, Samklef said music was more enjoyable in the early days, noting that there was no pressure, hatred, or unhealthy comparisons when Wizkid and Olamide rose to prominence.
He added that the industry later became toxic following Davido’s entry.
Samklef’s comments have since sparked mixed reactions online, with several social media users criticising him for singling out Davido and blaming one individual for the industry’s challenges.
As of the time of this report, Davido has not responded to the allegations.
