Nigerian comedian Emmanuel Ejekwu, popularly known as Sabinus, has opened up about the early resistance he faced from his father while pursuing a career in comedy.

In an interview with VJ Adams, Sabinus disclosed that his father had hoped he would become a lawyer.
However, after failing to secure admission to study law, he opted for Linguistics and Communication Studies instead.
He explained that his journey into comedy began during his time at the University of Port Harcourt, where he discovered skit-making and decided to give it a try, even though it initially brought no financial rewards.
According to him, he kept his burgeoning comedy career hidden from his father after graduation.
It wasn’t until a year later when his father began seeing his images on comedy show posters and his sisters confirmed his involvement that the truth came out.
Sabinus recalled that his father was furious upon learning the news, questioning why his son would abandon a “respectable” career path for comedy.
However, the comedian added that his father eventually accepted his career choice and gave his blessings after witnessing his success and receiving monetary gifts from him.
