The Taifa Stars of Tanzania have been officially cleared by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to compete in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

CAS announced on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, that it has dismissed the appeal filed by the Guinean Football Federation (FEGUIFOOT), which sought to overturn Tanzania’s qualification.
Guinea argued that Tanzania should be disqualified for fielding a player wearing the wrong shirt number during their AFCON qualifier on November 19, 2024 a match Tanzania won 1-0.
They claimed the error created an unfair tactical advantage and insisted the game should be awarded to them 3-0.
However, CAS ruled that the incident was a harmless administrative mistake with no impact on the sporting outcome.
The decision upholds the earlier ruling by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and definitively ends Guinea’s bid to replace Tanzania at the 2025 tournament.
With the matter resolved, Tanzania can now focus fully on preparations for AFCON.
The Taifa Stars are placed in Group C alongside Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles, and regional rivals Uganda’s Cranes. Their opening match is scheduled against Nigeria in Fez on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
