Former Chelsea Star Oscar Hospitalised in ICU with Heart Problem

According to Brazilian outlet Globo, the 34-year-old fell ill while testing an exercise bike during a training session on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

He was immediately attended to by medical staff before being taken to the Israelita Einstein Hospital, where he remains under observation in stable condition.

A statement from São Paulo confirmed that Oscar experienced “cardiological changes” during training and is now undergoing further tests to determine the exact diagnosis.

The club added that updates will be shared “in agreement with Oscar,” respecting his privacy.

Oscar, who joined São Paulo last December on a three-year contract, has played just 21 matches for the club.

His last appearance came in August against Corinthians, when he suffered a fractured vertebrae after just 20 minutes.

Globo reports that medical tests for that injury had already shown signs of a heart irregularity, but he was cleared to continue playing.

Brazilian media also claim Oscar is now considering amicably terminating his contract, which runs until 2027, due to health concerns.

Oscar, who rose to prominence at Chelsea between 2012 and 2017 before a big-money move to Shanghai Port, had described his return to São Paulo as a “homecoming” and vowed to help the club achieve “great things.”
