For the millions of passengers passing through Lagos and Abuja airports each year, the familiar jingling of coins and rustle of notes is disappearing.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has launched a cashless payment system, signalling a modern, contactless chapter in the country’s aviation experience.

Digital Transactions Across Airports
Starting September 29, 2025, Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja will operate fully digitally at key revenue points.
Consequently, travellers will make payments with a tap or a click at access gates, car parks, and VIP lounges, leaving cash behind.
Additionally, FAAN developed the system in partnership with Paystack to create a more transparent and efficient airport experience.
By reducing reliance on physical money, the authority aims to streamline operations, secure revenues, and simplify life for passengers.

Moreover, to ensure a smooth transition, FAAN has deployed brand ambassadors at gates and terminals.
Further, these staff members guide passengers through the new process, demonstrate how it works, and answer questions.
Additionally, travellers can obtain a FAAN Go Cashless Card at the airports and activate and fund it online through www.gocashless.faan.gov.ng.
Ultimately, FAAN plans to expand the cashless system to airports nationwide, gradually bringing Nigeria’s aviation sector in line with global digital payment standards.
As the first passengers step through the gates without reaching for cash, they glimpse the country’s cashless future—one tap at a time.
