Warner, who tragically drowned in Costa Rica on July 20 at the age of 54, was remembered during the ceremony’s “In Memoriam” segment.

Speaking at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, Rashad, 77, reflected on his legacy.

“He was a beloved teenager in an iconic television series the world watched grow into a man. And like all our friends and colleagues who transitioned this past year, Malcolm-Jamal Warner remains in our hearts,” she said.

Rashad best known for playing Clair Huxtable opposite Warner on the 1980s sitcom reminded audiences that his impact would continue to resonate despite his passing.

The segment also honoured other late stars, including Quincy Jones, Ozzy Osbourne, Loni Anderson, Maggie Smith, Michelle Trachtenberg and John Amos, with Vince Gill and Lainey Wilson delivering a heartfelt performance of Go Rest High on That Mountain.
