The family of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Josephine Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has announced the death of her younger sister, Ruth Otabor.
According to a statement issued through the family’s solicitors, Ruth passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at about 6:30 a.m.
The family described the loss as a painful tragedy and appealed to the public for privacy as they mourn, adding that funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
Ruth’s death follows an accident that occurred on August 13, 2025, when she was hit by a Dangote truck near the gate of Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State, just six days after her graduation.
The impact of the crash led to severe injuries and the eventual amputation of her leg at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital.
Phyna had earlier taken to social media to demand justice for her sister, accusing authorities and the company involved of negligence in handling the case.
The incident generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for accountability and improved road safety measures.
The Otabor family remains in mourning as sympathisers continue to send condolences over the passing of Ruth, described as a daughter, sister, and mother whose life was cut short in its prime.
