Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has been laid to rest.
The funeral took place on Saturday, September 13, 2025, in Ogun State.

A viral video from the burial showed an emotional Phyna surrounded by her Level 2 housemates, who turned out in numbers to support her during the heartbreaking farewell.
Also, the mourners described the atmosphere as sombre.
Many recalled Ruth’s vibrant personality and the tragic circumstances that cut her life short.
The Accident and Tragic Loss
Ruth’s passing followed a devastating road accident on August 13, 2025, near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State.
Also, a truck belonging to the Dangote Group collided with her vehicle.
This leaves her with severe injuries, including the amputation of one leg.
Despite extensive medical care and plans to fly her abroad for specialised treatment, Ruth succumbed to her injuries on August 31, 2025, at approximately 6:30 AM.
Confirming the heartbreaking news, the family’s lawyer issued a statement:
“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st day of August, 2025. The family requests privacy as they mourn.”

Ruth’s death has reignited public debate over road safety and corporate accountability in Nigeria.
