The 26-year-old forward was forced off in the 35th minute of the Super Eagles’ 1-0 victory over Rwanda last weekend and replaced by Cyriel Dessers.

The injury also ruled Victor Osimhen out of Nigeria’s crucial World Cup qualifier against South Africa on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Toyota Stadium, Bloemfontein.

In an official statement released on their website, Galatasaray revealed the diagnosis:

“In the examinations performed today at our sponsor hospital for our Football A Team player Victor Osimhen, a moderate sprain (stretching and bleeding) was detected in his ankle ligaments and the necessary treatment has been initiated in order for our football player to return to the field as soon as possible.”

Head coach Okan Buruk described the setback as “devastating,” with the striker’s absence posing a major blow ahead of key fixtures.

Galatasaray are scheduled to face Eyupspor in league action this weekend before kicking off their UEFA Champions League campaign away to Eintracht Frankfurt.
