Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has openly criticised the idea that actors and professionals should prioritise church attendance over their work obligations on Sundays.

Speaking on the Honest Bunch podcast, Solade recalled a 2013 incident where he was urged to stop producers from booking him for Sunday jobs because of church commitments.

Also, he firmly rejected the notion.

He insisted that professional duties should not be compromised for religious expectations.

The actor described church demands as potentially harmful to people’s livelihoods.

He emphasised that financial responsibilities and career growth cannot be sidelined in the name of religious obligations.

If you see me in the church, is that how we are filming? In 2013, I was told in church to tell producers not to call me for Sunday work. I cursed those pastors. From that very job they said I should reject, I use the money to drop in church,”  Yemi Solade stated.

The actor further argued that the Bible does not explicitly state Sunday as the only day for worship.

He added that pressuring people to sacrifice their work opportunities could ruin careers.

Yemi Solade also shared an anecdote about a technician who used money given to him for work materials as a church offering.

Also, he stresses that such actions divert resources from personal responsibilities to religious institutions.
