Cristiano Ronaldo has taken time out to send a touching message to an awestruck fan he met before Portugal’s clash with Armenia.
The Portugal icon was spotted consoling a young mascot before kick-off on Saturday night, offering words of support during an emotional evening.
Portugal were back in competitive action for the first time since the death of Liverpool star Diogo Jota and swept Armenia aside in a 5-0 win.
Ronaldo scored twice during the game, with his first goal coming in the 21st minute.
Manager Roberto Martinez said afterwards the goal showed that “Jota is with us” as the forward wore the 21 for the national team.
Ronaldo has now sent a message to the young mascot he met at the match and made it clear he made a big impression on the Portugal icon.
He posted a video of the moment on X and added the caption: “I made a new friend yesterday.
“Grateful for the love and support every single day and I hope everyone gets to follow their dreams!”
Ronaldo’s double against Armenia mean he has now scored 941 goals in his career.
