The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has extended the grace period for enforcing the tinted glass permit requirement for vehicles to Thursday, October 2, 2025.
Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced the extension on Monday, August 11, 2025.

He explained that the decision followed a surge in applications on the official portal, showing increased public compliance.
Adejobi said the additional time would allow the police to thoroughly review applications and ensure that permits go only to eligible and qualified individuals, in line with national security needs.
“The Inspector General of Police has approved a further extension of the grace period for the enforcement of the tinted glass permit requirement for vehicles with tinted windows, with the new enforcement date now set for Thursday, October 2, 2025 ,” he stated.
He noted that the extension would also help refine both digital and physical verification processes to maintain the integrity of the permit system and prevent abuse.
Adejobi urged Nigerians to report any cases of extortion, hidden charges, or unauthorised processing to the police via the dedicated hotline, 09169967000.
This is the second extension granted since the police announced the tinted glass permit enforcement in April. Initially, motorists had a 30-day period from 1 May to apply for or regularise existing permits.
