In the heat of the choice of a Senate President, Sani Mohammed Takori, a former member of the House of Representatives, denounced the Vice President’s recent remarks about the Senate President election.

Vice President Shatima had said, that in the current regime, “the worst and most incompetent Southern Christian was better than the Northern Muslim in the Senate presidency”.

Takori viewed the remark as a deliberate attack on the North, particularly North West Senator-elect and former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdul’Aziz Yari.

While denouncing the Vice President’s attitude, the former lawmaker promptly pushed him to withdraw his statement and apologise to the northerners.

“We are well aware that President Tinubu is a true democrat, and he would never succumb to an undemocratic posture.

He urged senators-elect to oppose any act of imposition by the administration and to elect leadership of their choosing.

According to him, this would ensure the parliament’s independence.

“As Senators-elect, if you want true democratic development in the country, don’t let a stooge lead the Senate,” he said.
