Civil servants in Nigeria are set to reap the benefit of their labour.
Well, that is how many people have described it.
For others, the government’s commencement of the ₦70,000 minimum wage payment is of no use, especially with the harsh economic reality.
In a latest interview on Thursday, the Spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Bawa Mokwa, shared the good news.
However, Mokwa who confirmed that payment will commence on Thursday, September 26, 2024, expressed uncertainty over the minimum wage arrears.
He said: “Federal Government civil servants will start getting the new minimum wage from today (Thursday) this September 2024. What I can tell you is that the minimum wage salary payment is today I am not sure of the arrears.”

As we speak, civil servants are waiting in high anticipation.
Many are holding their phones very tight; every beep beats their hearts.
This money, even though little as many described it, will go a very long way.
