With his team a goal down after nine minutes into the semi-final clash against Les Bleus, 16-year-old Yamal fired in a stunning goal to pull La Roja level to help turn the game around, with a Jules Kounde own goal three minutes later sealing the victory.

Yamal, who has been one of the stars of the tournament, became the youngest scorer in European Championship history with his goal, breaking a record that was set 20 years prior.

The Barcelona winger was happy to play such a pivotal role for his team.

“We were in a difficult moment, you wouldn’t expect a goal so soon.

“I wanted to put it in where it went in and I’m very happy,” he told La 1.

“I try not to think too much, enjoy it and help the team and if it works out like this.

“I’m happy and content with the victory.

“However, I want to win, win and win.

“I’ll celebrate my birthday here in Germany with my team.”
