There are reports of heavy security presence in Jos the Plateau State capital, as the All Progressive Congress (APC), presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu flags off his presidential campaign rally at Rwang Pam Township Stadium.

According to reports, security personnels of  various agencies like soldiers of the Nigerian Army, policemen, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) as well as the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), were seen securing major routes leading into the venue.

The Rwang Pam Stadium is adorned with different campaign materials, such as posters, billboards others.

Security personnel were reported to be having a tough time controlling the crowd of elated supporters at the venue.

The Director of Media and Publicity for the presidential campaign council, Bayo Onanuga, told Punch that the campaign in Jos would be a festival of sorts being the official kick-off of Tinubu’s first rally.

He disclosed virtually all members of the PCC, from President Muhammadu Buhari to all the members of the Progressive Governors Forum and the APC women’s campaign team will be present at the rally.

Onanuga, who described the heavy security presence at the venue as normal, said “The local organising committee is fully in charge. We are just going there as guests. In all our engagements so far, the committee in each state is always responsible for arrangements including security.

“Don’t forget, the president is coming too because this is the first rally we are having. But you are aware we have been campaigning before now. This is the very festival of the campaign.

“All of us in the PCC directorates are going there in our aso ebi including the women campaign team.”

The state’s APC Publicity Secretary, Sylvanus Namang, said the massive turn-out was an indication that the party is widely accepted.

Namang, who was reported to have said the people outside the stadium were more than those inside noted that “This is a momentous crowd, the stadium is already filled to capacity.

“We have three screens outside the stadium, just stay there and watch, I can assure you that you will not miss anything.”
