The LA Lakers have started the new season in disappointing fashion in a 123-109 blowout loss to the Golden State Warriors.
Steph Curry scored a game-high 33 points to lead the defending champs to victory over the Lakers. The final scoreboard undoubtedly gave Darvin Ham’s team an unfair advantage.
After a rather ugly start on both sides, it was the Warriors that took over, outscoring the Lakers 32-19 in the third quarter to take full command and not look back, cruising to a 14-point victory.
Curry led the way with 33 points (on 10 of 22 shooting) while Andrew Wiggins finished with 20 points and Klay Thompson added 19 points in 18 minutes.
For the Lakers, who shot 10 of 40 from 3-point range on the night, LeBron James led the way with 31 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists, while Anthony Davis added 27 points on 10 of 22 shooting and Russell Westbrook scored 19 points on 7 of 12 shooting. Outside of that trio, the Lakers scored 32 points on 11-of-34 shooting.

Although it’s only one game in – and against a very potent Warriors side – the Lakers’ lacklustre form drew criticism from the NBA world.
Curry took the microphone in the middle of Golden State’s championship ring ceremony to make an impassioned plea in support of Brittney Griner as the WNBA star spent her 32nd birthday in a Russian prison.
