The need to re-establish air transportation to Hadejia in Jigawa State has come to the front burner of discussion under the President Buhari administration.
It is being considered, as the government says it has seen how distressed some parts of the northern region had become as a result of insecurity and crime for some years now by bandits and insurgents.
The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is proffering air transportation as a tangible solution to the myriads of problems facing the states of the northern region.

The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, is optimistic that the Federal Government’s plan to re-establish air transportation to Jigawa State will come with security and economic benefits.
He said the 18-month-period project would cost the federal government ₦7.48 billion.
Furthermore, he said the airport will also be used to transport agricultural products from Jigawa and other neighbouring states to different parts of the country and beyond.
Sirika, also stated that the airport would aid in combating the scourge of insecurity in the northern part of Nigeria.
Also, says it will promote free movement of people and goods.
Promoting Food Security
The minister in a statement issued in Abuja said that significant resources had been committed to the project in recognition of how the airport can enhance the security.
According to him, “by connecting markets, people and cultures, the initiative seeks to strengthen the country’s economy and promote food security.
“Today we are performing the groundbreaking ceremony to re-establish air transportation in this very historic city town of Hadejia.
“We are very delighted for very many reasons”.

Reiterating the importance of Hadejia and the need for the airport, the minister said: “You cannot discuss history to tradition, culture, and market and eliminate Hadejia. It is incomplete.
“The place with a very huge culture, aviation, and market and therefore leaving them out of the map where it can be accessed through air transportation is a mistake and unthinkable and we think that we should correct it”.
