The recent arrest of the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) has left the entire social media community in commotion.
To make matters worse, Nigerians are not aware of the reason for Ajaero’s arrest.
This has left many people lost in the ocean of speculation and rumors.
To many, Ajaero’s arrest was connected to the recent invitation he received from the police.
Others concluded that the arrest must be political.
People who share this sentiment believe that “since the government’s plan to intimidate the union with the Nigeria Police Force failed, they are now deploying higher powers”.
Well, in the midst of the noise and chaos, Human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), has taken it upon himself to share some information with Nigerians.
Indeed, Falana is the legal counsel to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), hence, this is first-hand information.
Falana spoke on Monday, shortly after the arrest of the NLC president.
According to the human rights lawyer, the arrest of the union’s president by operatives of the DSS is not connected to the earlier invitation by the police.
In fact, it might interest you to know that the DSS arrested Ajaero for no reason.
The Big Story
For those who missed the big story.
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) had earlier invited Ajaero over matters related to a “threat to public peace.”
However, the invitation was later rescheduled due to Ajaero’s engagement with other labour assignments.

What Ajaero did not know was that the police invitation was only the beginning of his troubles.
Fast forward to Monday, Ajaero was arrested by DSS operatives on while on his way to the United Kingdom.
No Reason Has Been Provided
Speaking in an interview with Punch, Falana said: “The invitation to Comrade Joe Ajaero by the police was rescheduled last week. I have contacted the police authorities. The arrest is not related to the police invitation.
“Comrade Ajaero was on his way to London to attend the ongoing TUC Conference when he was arrested at the airport this morning by the SSS.
No reason has been provided for the arrest by the SSS.”
