It was all wails and cries, as onlookers beheld an inferno burning off a good amount of goods at a popular market in Lagos.
Pandemonium hit, as fire razed three buildings and destroyed property worth millions of Naira in a market situated at Dosunmu Street, Lagos Island area of Lagos State.
According to the director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, the incident occurred at about 8:50 p.m. on Saturday.
Margaret stated that the quick response of the fire rescue team helped in containing the fire from spreading to other parts of the building, while adding that only the topmost floors were affected.
Although, she noted that no casualties or injuries were recorded in the fire incident.
The statement reads, “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has brought under control the raging Fire at 54, Dosunmu Street, within the popular Lagos Market, Lagos Island”.
“The fire which was reported at 20:50 hours, Saturday involved a trio of three-storey buildings but the timely intervention of coordinated tactical firefighting limits it to only the topmost floors”.
“While house 54 where the fire erupted from was severely affected, houses 56 and 58 were however sparsely involved” she added.
In addition, “It affected a variety of goods that include key lock/cylinder, decoration fittings, Christmas items, among others, which cost cannot be immediately ascertained.”

Furthermore, she explained that the cause of the fire had not been determined.
According to her, investigation is ongoing.
