The Labour Party’s candidate in the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi, has declared his support for a planned nationwide protest that will address the nation’s critical challenges.
His endorsement comes as Nigerians prepare for the 10-day protest that will take place from August 1 to August 10, 2024.
The protest will be throughout the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of the nation.
The protesters want to draw attention to how angry they are about the growing cost of living, insecurity, exorbitant government costs, and corruption.
Obi feels that Nigerians should be permitted to use nonviolent protest as a means of expressing their dissatisfaction.
Following an encounter with Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, Obi underscored the significance of nonviolent protests.
Furthermore, Peter Obi reminded security services that nonviolent protests are a global constitutional right.
He also encouraged them to abide with the law.
Also, Obi urged people to refrain from using violence and to keep their protests within the bounds of the law.
