The Nigerian passport which is supposed to be a necessity may now become a luxury in the hands of its citizens
At a time when Nigerians are appealing to the government to implement policies which will cushion the effect of the harsh economic conditions they are faced with, the reverse seems to be the case as they will now have to pay more to get or renew their passports.
Apart of its efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport, the Federal Government has approved an upward review of the fees for the Passport effective from 1st September, 2024.
In a statement released tonight August 21, the NigeriaImmigration Service says based on the review, a 32-page Passport booklet with 5 ear validity previously charged at Thirty-five Thousand Naira (₦35,000.00) will now be Fifty Thousand Naira (₦50,000.00) only.
Meanwhile, the 64-page Passport booklet with 10 year validity which was Seventy Thousand Naira (₦70,000.00) will be One Hundred Thousand Naira (₦100,000.00) only.
According to the statement, the fees remain unchanged in Diaspora.
