The Paris 2024 Olympics village officially opened its doors yesterday to receive its first contingent of athletes and officials.
With just few days to go before the opening ceremony, Australia and Brazil are the first countries to arrive.
Located north of Paris, the village will accommodate nearly 14,500 individuals at its peak, including 9,000 athletes.
The village has been designed with sustainability in mind, and organizers are proud to offer a cooling system that doesn’t require air-conditioning.
The temperature inside the village is expected to be at least 6 degrees Celsius (42 Fahrenheit) lower than outside.
However, some delegations have opted to bring their own air-conditioning units as a precaution.
The village features several innovations that make it a model of low-carbon construction. After the Olympic and Paralympic Games, which take place from July 26 to September 8, the apartments will be converted into homes, with at least a third designated for public housing.
