Manchester United chose to part ways with Scott McTominay during the summer transfer window, with the Scotland international sealing a €30.5 million (£25.7m/$33.6m) move to Napoli.

Since joining Antonio Conte’s side, McTominay has emerged as one of the standout performers, contributing two goals and an assist in his last three appearances.

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United, on the other hand, have stooped to new lows as they are winless in their last five matches and have only won three times in their opening 11 games of the season.

The Red Devils have struggled massively in midfield with Casemiro’s woes continuing and new signing Manuel Ugarte, seen as McTominay’s replacement, has been unable to find his feet at Old Trafford just yet.

Di Canio has now suggested that United’s directors should be arrested for allowing McTominay to leave the leave club.

Speaking to Il Mattino, Di Canio said: “I would go to those at Manchester United to arrest all the directors: but how can you give McTominay away?

“There is someone like [David] Neres who is a reserve.

“[Billy] Gilmour at Brighton has shown that he has the same characteristics of coming out with the ball at his feet and lucidity as [Stanislav] Lobotka.”
