Hon. Olamide Oladiji, the lawmaker representing Ondo East Constituency, emerged as Speaker of the 10th Ondo State House of Assembly.

Also, Hon. Abayomi Akinruntan of Ilaje Constituency 1 was also elected as deputy speaker.

The Clerk of the House, Benjamin Jaiyeola, read the proclamation of the State Governor.

After the election, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, called for the first session of the tenth parliament to commence in accordance with the constitution.

To allow them begin their work, the Clerk of the House administered oaths of office to both the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker.

Afterwards, additional members swore their vows of allegiance.

Meanwhile, Temitope Akomolafe, the legislator representing Ifedore constituency, moved a resolution to nominate Oladiji as speaker.

A Cordial Relationship 

It was backed by Abiola Oladapo, the politician representing Ondo West 2.

Oluwatosin Ogunlowo, the legislator representing Idanre constituency, nominated Akinruntan for the position of deputy speaker.

Earlier, the 26 members-elect presented their original Certificates of Return for validation to the house.

In his speech to the 10th assembly, the new speaker, Oladiji, expressed gratitude to his colleagues for their trust in him.

“To my colleagues, this victory belongs to all of us. By electing me as Speaker, you have shown the world that our legislators are living up to our hopes and dreams.

“I pledge to you, my colleagues, that the relationship between the legislative and executive branches of government will be smooth in order for us to succeed.

“If we are to achieve success in this state, there must be a cordial relationship between the legislature and the executives.

“We are going to support the governor so that he can achieve his plans and objectives for the state,” he told the lawmakers.
