Kylian Mbappe has become Paris St Germain’s all-time leading scorer after netting his 201st goal for the club in Saturday night’s 4-2 Ligue 1 win over Nantes, March 4, 2023.
It has taken the electrifying France international striker just 247 appearances to surpass previous record-holder Edinson Cavani’s 200 PSG goals.
Mbappe turned 24 in December, 2022.
Also, he reached the landmark with a clinical finish to conclude the scoring in the reigning French champions’ victory at Parc des Princes.
Mbappe, who finished the game as captain, said: “I play to make history.
“I have always said I wanted to make history in France, in the capital of my country, in my city, and I am doing that. It’s magnificent, but there is still a lot to be done.
“For me, as a native Parisian, this is special.
“If someone had said to me I would score the goal to beat the record while wearing the captain’s armband, I would not have believed it”.
History Making
Mbappe’s history-making strike came in the week he finished as runner-up in the voting for The Best FIFA Men’s Player Award, with PSG team-mate Lionel Messi claiming the prize.
Overtaking Cavani’s record is just the latest achievement in Mbappe’s incredible career to date.
In December 2022, he won the FIFA World Cup 2022™ Golden Boot after netting eight times in France’s campaign.
While France came up agonisingly short in their bid to retain their title at Qatar 2022 – losing an astonishing final to Argentina on penalties – Mbappe became the first player since Geoff Hurst in 1966 to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final.

The adidas Golden Boot was first awarded to the top goal scorer of the tournament in 1982. At the time it was named Golden Shoe.
It was renamed Golden Boot in 2010. Runners-up are awarded the adidas Silver Boot and adidas Bronze Boot awards respectively.
