The hearing into Manchester City’s alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules has begun with the club facing 115 charges.
The charges stem from a four-year investigation that concluded in February 2023.
Manchester City is accused of breaching financial rules between 2009 and 2018.
The club strongly denies all charges, and boast of having a “comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence” to support their case.
The Premier League alleges that Manchester City failed to provide accurate financial information, including club revenue and operating costs, and did not cooperate with the investigation.
When the investigation began, Manchester City dismissed the allegations as “entirely false” and claimed they were based on “illegal hacking and out of context publication of City emails”.
The hearing, expected to last around 10 weeks, will be held at the International Dispute Resolution Centre in London.
Manchester City has enjoyed significant success since their 2008 takeover by Abu Dhabi United Group, winning eight league titles, multiple cups, and the Champions League.
Manager Pep Guardiola commented on the upcoming hearing, saying, “It starts soon and hopefully finishes soon… Everybody is innocent until guilt is proven. So we’ll see.”
