Transfer: PSG coach, Tuchel speaks on Kurzawa joining Arteta’s Arsenal

Paris Saint-Germain boss, Thomas Tuchel has demised report linking his left-back, Layvin Kurzawa with a move to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal this January transfer window.

DAILY POST had reported that Arsenal have spoken with Kurzawa, but are not the only European club interested in the left-back.

The 27-year-old left-back is into the final six months of his contract with PSG and will not sign a new deal.

However, Arsenal are ready to snap him up in January, rather than wait until the summer.

With Kieran Tierney and Sead Kolasinac both injured, the Premier League side is keen on Kurzawa’s low fee and the idea that he could be revived by a new challenge.

But, Tuchel is now saying that PSG needs Kurzawa in case first-choice left-back, Juan Bernat suffer an injury.

“I haven’t spoken with Layvin or anyone else about his departure this winter,” Tuchel told a news conference ahead of PSG’s clash with Lorient in the Coupe de France on Sunday as quoted by Goal.

“Layvin is number two behind [Juan] Bernat in the left-back position. We need him and Layvin will play tomorrow (Sunday) against Lorient.”

Imo: Clear reasons Hope Uzoninma defeated Ihedioha in Supreme Court – Oshiomhole

Adams Oshiomhole, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has said his party deserved the victory handed it by the Supreme Court in the Imo State governorship election.

Advertisements

Oshiomhole explained that APC deserved the judgement based on the ‘facts’ available to the court and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Recall that the Supreme Court had a few days ago nullified the election of Emeka Ihedioha as governor of Imo State while declaring Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress, APC, winner of the governorship election.

However, Oshomhole in a press conference over the weekend in Abuja described the INEC declaration of Ihedioha as governor of Imo State as fraudulent since the sacked governor never met the required one-quarter vote in two-thirds of the 27 local government areas of the state.

Oshiomhole also accused the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of recklessness and attempt to stir violence among Nigerians since the court’s decision.

He said: “PDP is not only reckless, they believe it is their birthright to benefit from electoral fraud. Courts are bound to interpret laws according to the constitution. No court has the power to bend the 1999 constitution of Nigeria as amended.

“As far as we know, Imo has 27 local government, and Emeka Ihedioha scored two-thirds of the votes in 12 LGs. Two-third of 27 is eighteen. So you have a huge deficit of six LGAs which Ihedioha or anybody else must necessarily have to be declared a winner of a governorship election,” the APC chairman explained as he condemned the state’s Returning Officer, Francis Otunta, for “unlawfully declaring Emeka Ihedioha as governor of Imo State.”

Oshiomhole stated that the added 388 PUs votes by the apex court were cast at Uzodinma’s senatorial district, Orlu (Imo West), where he was twice elected as senator.

“You are at liberty to ask for those documents, they are not classified. Every political party has the right to inspect election materials but neither did Emeka Ihedioha’s lawyer nor PDP’s lawyer questioned the validity of the votes that were cast in this 388 PUs because they were duly signed not only by APC agents, but by the polling units’ presiding officers as required by the law, as well as other political parties, including the PDP.

“However, because PDP has a reputation for manipulating system, to our shock, the lower court conveniently overlooked these 388 units and proceeded to deal with other units. They made no comments, nobody nullified those units,” Oshiomhole said.

While presenting the 2020 Appropriation Bill to the National Assembly, Buhari said the bill has “five strategic objectives, in terms of achieving incremental, but necessary, changes to our fiscal laws.

“These objectives are; Promoting fiscal equity by mitigating instances of regressive taxation; Reforming domestic tax laws to align with global best practices; Introducing tax incentives for investments in infrastructure and capital markets; Supporting Micro, Small and Medium-sized businesses in line with our Ease of Doing Business Reforms; and Raising Revenues for Government.

Imo: Why we lost Zamafara to PDP – APC

Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday said it lost the state to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because God wanted to test the party.

APC Chairman, Lawal Liman, spoke on the Supreme Court ruling on Imo governorship election at the party’s monthly stakeholders meeting in Kaura-Namoda.

Liman said the APC members in the state deserved commendation considering their patience and persistence in supporting the party in spite of the challenges they are facing.

“We are aware of the challenges that our members are facing from the present PDP-led administration in the state.

“Though we have lost the leadership of the state as a result of Supreme Court judgement, we shouldn’t be discouraged because of fear of witch-hunting and harassment; we should consider it as a test from God”, he said.

Liman urged the PDP-led government in the state to accept that, “the room for opposition is provided in the nation’s constitution, therefore any democratic government must accept opposition”.

He urged party members and supporters in the state to continue to be united, patient and law-abiding.

“The recent reconciliation with the former APC governorship aspirant, Alhaji Aminu Jaji and defection of former PDP governorship aspirant, Alhaji Ibrahim Shehu-Bakauye to the party has increased our strength”, Liman added.

Bola Tinubu, national leader of the APC, had revealed why the court declared the party winner in Imo.

The Supreme Court, in a unanimous judgment on Tuesday, sacked Emeka Ihedioha of the PDP as Imo governor and declared Hope Uzodinma as duly elected.

A seven-man panel, in its decision held, that Ihedioha did not win the majority of votes cast at the March 9, 2019 governorship election.

The judgment delivered by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun held that the candidate of the APC won on grounds that he polled majority of the lawful votes cast at the election.

The Blues wasted the chance to go clear in fourth place, as they lost thanks to Isaac Hayden’s late goal.

Chelsea could end the weekend nine points behind Leicester in third, if the Foxes beat Burnley on Sunday.

It was another frustrating afternoon for Lampard’s men, who had 70 percent of the ball and 19 attempts, but could not score.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Lampard insisted he needs reinforcements this month, amid links to strikers Timo Werner and Moussa Dembele.

“If we are looking for people to bring in to the areas to win games when you are controlling it, it is scoring goals.

“We can’t work anymore in training on finishing. You need to have that killer instinct in front of goal.

“We need to score more goals from front-line areas if we are going to get to where we want to be.

“It’s quite clear from what I am saying now that we know where we need to strengthen but we shall see.

“We know we have problems at the top of the pitch in terms of we don’t get enough goals.

“If you don’t score you are always liable for a sucker punch and they got it,” he said.
