4 Injured As Building Collapses In Plateau

In the early hours of Monday, a residential building in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State collapses, injuring a few individuals.

According to the trending news, four people were injured following the collapse of a residential building in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident occurred after a heavy downpour that started on Sunday evening and lasted into the early hours of Monday.

Residents reported that the building, located near Government College in Riyom, collapsed while the occupants were asleep.

A local resident, Dusu Judith, confirmed the incident to reporters in Jos, stating that the four injured individuals were mostly children.

Judith said: “The people were just sleeping in their house last night when the building collapses. Luckily, no death was recorded but four persons were injured. Those injured are currently receiving treatment in a hospital”.

Another resident, Bot Rwang, expressed shock over the collapse, praising the survival of the family members inside.

“It is God that saved them because it is shocking how they escaped, looking at the structure which collapsed completely with debris on the ground,” Rwang said.

This incident comes amid a spate of building collapses in Plateau State.

In July 2024, a tragic collapse at a school in Busa Buji, Jos North Local Government Area, claimed the lives of 22 schoolchildren and injured 132 others.

Stakeholders have attributed such incidents to poor workmanship, substandard building materials, and corruption.

In response to the July collapse, the Plateau State government shut down the affected school, Saint Academy, and demolished unsafe buildings on the premises.

As we speak, no fewer than eight persons have been injured.

Unfortunately, one was reported dead.

This sad incident occurred in a head-on collision between two buses on the Third Mainland Bridge, near the Ilaje area of Lagos.

A statement was released by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofiq, after the clash.

The statement revealed that the crash occurred as a result of reckless driving by two Mazda commercial buses, with number plates — LND 624 YE and EKY 804 YH, “recklessly engaged in a high-speed chase from Adeniji Adele”.

The statement noted that the intervention of the LASTMA officials “facilitated the rapid rescue of eight passengers, all of whom suffered severe fractures,” adding that this serves as a reminder of the “catastrophic consequences of irresponsible driving practices.”

“The injured were immediately transported to Gbagada General Hospital for urgent medical care, courtesy of the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS).

“Police units from Bariga and Alonge Police Stations were instrumental in providing critical security support during the rescue operation, ensuring order and expediting the efforts to restore normalcy.

“The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reiterates its unwavering commitment to ensuring road safety and implores all motorists to strictly observe speed regulations and exercise caution while driving,” the statement read.

The agency also sympathised with the family of the bereaved and “wishes the injured a swift and full recovery.”

Edo 2024: Adams Oshiomhole Accused Of Plots To Rig Election

Former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, has been accused of plotting to rig the forthcoming governorship election in polling units around his hometown in Iyamho.

The latest development come ahead of the Edo State gubernatorial election scheduled for September 21.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, spoke during a press conference in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

There, he accused Oshiomhole of colluding with the Commander of Mopol and his men to sabotage the election in his hometown.

Nehikhare claimed that the same scenario played out in the last election in 2020.

His words: “We are aware of plans that have already been concluded by Senator Adams Oshiomhole to engage the Commander of Mopol 60 and his men who have been engaged to provide shield in the polling units around Senator Oshiomhole’s home in Iyamho.
This is to allow the Senator and his supporters take the ballot papers and all election materials into his premises and thumbprint all the ballot papers for APC, leaving other parties with no chances of getting fair votes.
In the last elections, we gave this information but it was ignored.
The BVAS report validated our report as 210 people were accredited but over 1000 votes were recorded.”

Furthermore, Nehikhare alleged that the state government had uncovered massive production of masks and police uniforms.

This act is carried out by APC agents.

No Chance Of Victory

According to the commissioner, their aim is to veil their thugs to disrupt voting processes in units and wards where they knew they stood no chance of victory.

He continued: “Only recently, a chieftain of the APC wore one of those uniforms and the police even presented a defence for such wanton display of impersonation.

“Having confirmed that they cannot win in Okpella, Lampese, Fugar, Ibillo and Agenebode, the APC has concluded plans to use thugs veiled in those masks and police uniforms which they produced to disrupt electoral process and intimidate voters in those areas.

“In Egor Local Government Area, the APC has gathered thugs in the home of a prominent APC leader as well as other houses in the neighborhood under the shield of the Textile Mill Police Station in order to disrupt the voting process in Egor Local Government Area.

“We also uncovered plans by the House of Representatives member representing Ovia Constituency who has engaged about 200 militants for the purpose of disrupting election materials and electoral officials in the riverine axis of the State beginning from Ologbo, Nikorogha, all the way to Siluko.
Also, we understand that these militants have already been ferried into the state and lodged into various hotels.
We are giving this information for the security agencies to act swiftly to arrest or dislodge these thugs and plans,” Nehikare added.

Dangote Petrol: Did Nigerians Wait In Vain?

After years of waiting, the Dangote Refinery has finally commenced production and distribution of petrol.

The federal government has expressed excitement over this development, stating it marks the return of industrialization in Nigeria.

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, described the event as “epoch-making” and a major win for local refining.

He emphasized that this initiative will ensure energy self-sufficiency and security in Nigeria, ending perennial scarcity and long queues.

However, controversy surrounds the pricing of petrol from the refinery. The NNPC announced a price of N898 per liter, while Dangote Refinery disowned this figure, calling it “misleading and mischievous.”

The company assured Nigerians of quality petroleum products and an end to fuel scarcity.

The refinery’s production capacity is 650,000 barrels per day, with 44% allocated for domestic needs and 56% for export.

This development is expected to reduce Nigeria’s foreign exchange demand by at least 40% and generate foreign earnings through exports.

While some Nigerians are optimistic about this new development, others remain skeptical. With the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) in place, the national oil company is now a going concern and no longer relies on government support.

As the situation unfolds, one question remains: Did Nigerians wait in vain for the Dangote Refinery to start producing petrol?

Only time will tell if this development will bring the promised relief to the country’s fuel problems.

Tragedy struck the family of famous Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Patoranking.

Patoranking’s sister, Chioma, reportedly lost her life in a tragic explosion at her home.

According to reports, the explosion claimed Chioma’s life instantly.

Also, her husband, George, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.

Media personality Cutie Juls shared the heartbreaking news in an Instagram post.

He revealed that the explosion occurred just after the family had celebrated their housewarming and their child’s birthday.

In a video of the aftermath, Cutie Juls recounted: “Remember when I posted last week that Patoranking’s sister passed away in a gas explosion at their home.

“Also, her husband and child were fighting for their lives in the hospital? Sadly, her husband couldn’t pull through and passed away too”.

Cutie Juls also expressed how much effort Patoranking put into trying to save his brother-in-law, including purchasing large amounts of blood in hopes of keeping him alive.

“He really tried, so at least his nephew wouldn’t be left an orphan,” she added.

Also, she urged Patoranking’s close friends to check on him, as he had been very close to his late sister.

Abducted Lady Regains Freedom At Checkpoint In Kaduna

Mercy Ishaya, a 25-year-old lady has regained freedom after exposing the kidnappers who abducted her from the New Bwari community in Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State.

According to reports, the victim was abducted on August 28, 2024, while her father, Godiya Ishaya, a businessman, was hit and left in the pool of his blood.

However, luck came the way of the victim when soldiers intercepted a Toyota Sienna conveying the bandits who were fleeing a security offensive in Dogon-Daji Forest in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

A family member of the victim said that upon stopping the bus, the girl immediately spoke out, telling the soldiers that she was abducted by the suspects and gave her father’s phone number to the soldiers.

In addition, he said the girl was taken to the hospital before reuniting with her family while the suspects were taken to a military barracks in Kaduna.

Katsina State To Improve Security, Boost Agriculture

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, says his government is committed to improving security and promoting agriculture.

In a meeting with the Chief of Air Staff, he emphasised collaboration to fight banditry and support youth through agriculture programs.

During a meeting at the Government House with Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff, Radda emphasised the importance of working closely together.

He stressed the need for a close collaboration between the state government and the armed forces.

He expressed his gratitude for the military’s ongoing support.

Also, he emphasised that the state was ready to help in any way possible.

Radda explained that addressing the root causes of banditry is crucial to restoring peace in the state.

He pointed out that unemployment, illiteracy, and a lack of livelihood opportunities were some of the key factors fueling insecurity.

Ways To Improve Food Security

To tackle these issues, the state government has been focusing heavily on agriculture, which involves nearly 90% of Katsina’s population.

To this end, as part of his plan to further promote agriculture, Governor Radda announced the distribution of over 4,000 solar-powered irrigation pumps.

This initiative, he explained, was aimed at engaging the youth in productive agricultural activities.

“This will not only improve food security but will also offer sustainable jobs for our young people,” he said.

Turning to security, Radda highlighted the success of the Katsina State Security Watch.

He mentioned that it had led to the arrest of over 1,000 informants.

He stressed the importance of community involvement in identifying and addressing threats to safety.

Air Marshal Abubakar praised the state government’s efforts, particularly in enhancing intelligence-sharing mechanisms.

He noted that these efforts had created a better environment for economic growth.

Abubakar also assured the governor of plans to deploy more Special Forces to Katsina.

These forces will strategically support the efforts of the armed forces and other security agencies in the fight against insecurity.
