Kenyan athlete Edwin Koech has once again proven his dominance in long-distance running by clinching victory in the men’s category of the 2025 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, held on Saturday.
Edwin Koech, who also emerged victorious in the 2023 edition, secured his second marathon title with an impressive time of 2 hours and 14 minutes.
This win earns him the $50,000 first-place prize.
Ethiopia’s Guta Hirpa Wins Women’s Race
In the women’s division, Ethiopian runner Guta Hirpa emerged as the 2025 champion, completing the race in 2 hours and 37.02 minutes.
Also, her victory marks her third win in the marathon’s history, further solidifying her legacy in the event.
On the home front, Nyango Boyi made headlines as the first Nigerian to complete the race.
He finished in 8th place overall with a time of 2:25:41.58.
The Reward
Also, his remarkable achievement earned him a $4,000 prize, along with the ₦2 million top award in the Nigerian category.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also joined thousands of runners in this year’s marathon.

The 2025 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon saw an impressive participation of around 37,000 athletes, competing in both the 10km and 42km race categories.
