Actress Biodun Okeowo Reveals Why She Left Nollywood

The actress, who recently tied the knot with her US-based partner, Adeniyi Olabiyi, in July 2024, took to her Instagram story on Friday to share her painful experience.

She reveals the dark side of the industry that forced her out.

“Marketers Blacklisted Me for Refusing to Compromise”

Biodun Okeowo disclosed that the intense sexual pressure from marketers was the primary reason she stepped away from acting.

She stated that she was blacklisted after refusing to remove her underwear for them.

“Marketers were the reason I left Nollywood. They blacklisted me simply because I refused to take off my panties,” she wrote.

According to her, the situation escalated to the point where she was deliberately sidelined by producers and erased from movie promotions despite playing lead roles.

“They told producers to stop featuring me and even went as far as removing my photo from the poster of a movie where I was the lead actress. The damage they did to my career was so severe that I lost interest in acting entirely, she lamented.

From Passion to Disillusionment

Meanwhile, the  actress admitted that the industry she once loved became unbearable.

This leads her to reject roles and eventually walk away from Nollywood.

“I developed so much hatred for a job I once had great passion for. It got to a point where I started declining roles because I was tired of the system,” she added.

Despite the setbacks, Okeowo expressed gratitude for overcoming the ordeal, emphasizing that God’s grace has positioned her in a better place today.
