Kidnappers Demand ₦70m Ransom From Ex-Deputy Gov‘s Family

The Naira redesign policy almost brought an end to the business of kidnapping. Almost!

Now, what we hear is a terrible return to where we were before the Naira scarcity.

Kidnappers of a former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Professor Onje Gye Wado, have demanded for ₦70 million as ransom for his release.

Now, with the Supreme Court’s ruling, kidnappers are not sure what would happen after December 31. Nigerians will look forward to a time they would be completely shut out of business.

But they are not waiting for that day to come. Hence, they have decided to return to business making huge demands.

Wado’s family was waiting for the call and it finally came a day after the man was taken away.

When the kidnappers reached out to the family on phone on Friday, they placed a huge demand.

The Negotiation

A source in the family says that the members of the family are pleading with the kidnappers to accept ₦2 million for his release.

The family members argues that the public holiday would make it impossible for them to visit the bank to make the arrangement for more money.

“The kidnappers are in touch with the family of the Professor and they have demanded the sum of ₦70 million, while the family has offered 2 million naira.

“Today Friday, till Monday, is public holiday, there is nowhere we can get money and we want him (Prof), back alive,” the source said.

The Abduction

The dilemma began for the Professor when gunmen, in the early hours of Friday, abducted Professor Onje Gye-Wado.
