A Max Air flight carrying 53 passengers caused a temporary shutdown of Kano’s Malam Aminu International Airport on Tuesday after a tyre burst and nose gear failure during landing.
Emergency services prevented injuries, and they cleared the runway by 08:00hrs.
On Tuesday, January 28, a Max Air aircraft, registration number 5N-MBD, encountered a tyre burst and a nose wheel landing gear collapse as it landed on Runway 06/24 at Malam Aminu International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano.
The aircraft, which was carrying 53 passengers and six crew members, managed to come to a halt safely without any injuries, thanks to the quick response of emergency services.
The emergency services responded promptly, following the airport’s emergency response plan, ensuring the safety of everyone onboard.

Fortunately, despite the severity of the situation, emergency services kept all passengers and crew members unharmed.
By Wednesday morning, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) cleared the runway and reopened it at 08:00hrs.
As a result, normal flight operations at the airport resumed without further disruption.
Meanwhile, the aircraft was towed to Bay 5 for investigation.
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has already launched an inquiry to determine the root cause of the tyre burst and landing gear failure, with the aim of preventing similar incidents in the future.
