Israelis have set out to protest against judicial reforms in the country.
The protesters believe the changes the government is pushing through the parliament will undermine judicial independence and threaten democracy.
The protesters are blocking roads and railways in what they tagged a “day of disruption“.
However, rather than guard them during the protest and ensure the protests run smoothly, police have begun to crack down on the Israelis.
Footage from Tel Aviv shows police officers using stun grenades and water cannons against protesters.
A video showed them kneeling on the neck of a demonstrator as he was detained.
Ministers have described the protesters as “anarchists”.
Police Crack Down On Protesters
Speaking on a local Israeli station, one protester identified as Zeev said, “This is terrible violence, no one touched the policemen.
“We were in a protest of civil people.
We didn’t expect such a thing and we are here to support democracy”.
However, the National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, said police had been “very patient” and had barriers and stones thrown at them.
